Making routine recall work more consistent

A recall is only useful if the next step is clear to the patient and the team. I designed an EMIS template that put shared scripts, prompts and coding into the workflow staff already used.

The need

Long-term-condition and screening recalls varied with individual knowledge. Patients could receive different preparation or follow-up depending on who made contact.

What I built

I designed and introduced a structured EMIS recall template for clinical and administrative teams. It brought together call scripts, investigation prompts, coding and clear recall outcomes, then changed as staff and patients gave feedback.

What we could measure

The template was used 28,957 times from April 2025 to the 2026 EMIS NUG award submission. Across the wider long-term-condition programme, targeted performance rose from 82.5% in 2024 to 92.8% in 2026.

Recognition

This work, alongside the reception template and language-coding project, formed part of my 2026 EMIS NUG Rising Star finalist nomination.
