Make veteran-friendly care part of everyday practice
Help your team ask about service history, record it properly and offer useful follow-up.
What you’ll have at the end
A registration question, a short staff guide and a clear route to support.
How to begin
- For practices in England, check existing accreditation and nominate a clinical lead. Review the RCGP application and accreditation pack; the scheme is free.
- Map where service history is asked, how it is recorded and who responds to an identified need. Never infer veteran status from appearance, age or occupation.
- Add a plain-language service-history question to registration and one suitable opportunistic workflow. Confirm coding locally; the RCGP recommends recording Military Veteran.
- Brief reception, clinical and social-prescribing staff. Maintain a checked directory of relevant services, including Op COURAGE and Op RESTORE, and agree who updates it.
- Pilot, sample the records and collect staff and patient feedback. Repair missed handoffs before expanding; add the workflow to staff induction.
What to measure
- Outcome: identified veterans with an appropriate support offer documented.
- Process: sampled registrations with service-history status recorded.
- Balancing: staff time and unwanted or repeated questioning.
Before using real data
England-specific accreditation. Accreditation alone is not evidence of improved outcomes. Priority care remains subject to clinical need; do not promise automatic preferential access.
Agree scope, data handling, supervision and escalation with your practice. Use approved systems. Do not upload patient information to this website or a public AI tool.
